Kincaid Takes home 2nd win of season.....
After a bad luck streak in Crandon, Jeff Kincaid Motorsports
prepped its top-notch Pro- Light duo, and packed up, and headed north to Bark River, MI. Bark River was slated to host
Rounds 7 & 8 of the 2009 Traxxas TORC series, July 11th & 12th. The crew arrived at the track Thursday the 9th
to get setup, and get the truck technical inspection done. Friday afternoon brought a 3 lap practice
session. With a brand new Toyota 3RZ motor to power
his Traxxas - Potawatomi Tacoma with BFGoodrich tires, Jeff wanted to do a
shakedown run to make sure all was well with the truck. With the practice complete and no problems,
Kincaid was sure his truck was setup right to get him into the winner’s circle.
A beautiful
and sunny Saturday brought Round 7 action to Bark River. With Jeff leading the point’s standings, and
the 6 truck inversion, he staged in the 6th starting position. The 9 truck field lined up 2 by 2, and headed
toward the starter’s tower. The green
flag dropped, and Kincaid waited patiently to settle into position. Jeff wasted no time charging to the front. On
lap 3 Kincaid settled into the 3rd position behind Chris Brandt and Chad Hord
as they battled for the lead. Kincaid
challenged for 2nd, but held his position until the mandatory caution on lap 5. The field bunched back up, and took the green
for the remainder of the race. Jeff took
no time getting himself to the second position as he settled in behind leader
Chad Hord. With 3 laps remaining, Jeff
started to challenge Hord for the lead.
Getting ready to make his move for the lead, Kincaid followed Hord in to
the back section of the 1.5 mile track. As
he rounded the back corner, Jeff started to slow and pulled off the track,
ending his day with a mechanical failure.
Hord went on to win the race and Kincaid finished in the 8th position. Even with Jeff’s DNF, he still set the
fastest lap in the race and received the Oakley Bomb Run Award. After Round 7, Hord took over the point
standings with a 12 point lead over Kincaid.
The crew
went to work Saturday night, doing a check-over of the truck, making sure it
was in winning form. Sunday morning
Kincaid used the practice session to check the truck over, and was confident he
would be on top of the podium for Round 8.
The 9 truck field again took the line, with Kincaid now starting in the
5th position for Round 8. Steve Federico
led the field to the green as action got underway. Kincaid made his way into 3rd
place by the 3rd corner, but with the first lap clutter contact was made, and
Jeff was spun around allowing the whole field to pass him. Straightened back out, Kincaid knew he had
some work to do to get to the front.
Jeff charged hard passing 4 trucks by the mandatory caution. As the field bunched back up, Kincaid sat in
the 4th position behind Marty Hart, Casey Currie, and Chris Brandt. The field rolled towards the green and took
off again. Jeff put himself right in the
middle of Currie and Brandt’s battle for 2nd, passing them both within a lap
and a half. With all of the battling,
Marty Hart had made a huge gap between him and the rest of the field. Kincaid was definitely not going to settle
for 2nd, so he pressed on, making up a second a lap. On the final lap, Hart started to show a
little smoke and his truck began to lose power.
Jeff kept the pressure on, and was able to pass Hart coming over the
hill from the back section. Kincaid then
cruised to his 2nd victory of the 2009 season.
Chris Brandt and Casey Currie would follow Jeff across the line
respectively. In Kincaid’s hunt for the
lead, he again set the fastest lap of the race, receiving the Oakley Bomb Run
Award for the 4th time this season. Chad
Hord was sidelined early with damage from the first lap mayhem, letting Jeff
gain some points back.
Leaving the weekend Kincaid and Hord are tied for first
place in the season-ending point’s standings, with 6 rounds remaining. Round 8 action will be broadcasted this
Sunday, July 19th, at 11:30 Eastern Time on ESPN2. Be sure to check out JKM’s
winning performance. The next stop on
the inaugural season of the Traxxas TORC Series will be back at Bark River,MI August 8th & 9th for Rounds 9 and 10.
We look forward to seeing you there.
