Jeff Kincaid Wins in Perris, CA
May 29th and 30th the Traxxas TORC Series was scheduled to take over Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, CA for Rounds 3 and 4 of the inaugural season. May 25th, Jeff Kincaid Motorsports packed up its fully prepped Pro-Lites and headed west towards P.A.S, looking to get in the winner’s circle. The crew arrived on Thursday the 28th to get setup and have the technical inspection completed. Friday brought two rounds of practice where Kincaid performed a shakedown run of the
truck and newly installed Goodwin Competition, Toyota Motor. After the run, the crew did a final check-list on the truck to make sure all was ready for round 3 competition. Happy with his setup, Jeff was confident he had a good chance at a win, starting from the 8th position.
Lined up 2 by 2, the 16 truck field took to the track for Round 3. As the Pace Truck pulled off the track Mark Oberg led the field to the green. With the race underway, Jeff wasted no time getting to the front gaining 5 positions in the first lap, but a rollover in turn 3 forced a red flag and a total restart. The field got back into their starting positions and took the green flag. Again Kincaid wasted no time making his way to the front passing 6 trucks before the
mandatory half-way caution. As the field bunched up during the yellow flag lap, Kincaid sat in 2nd behind Kyle Leduc. As Leduc led the field to the green, Jeff wasted no time making a move under Leduc in the first corner. Going down the back stretch, Kincaid slid up the track in front of Leduc taking the first position. That same lap another stalled truck brought out a full course caution. The field bunched up one more time as Kincaid led them to the line. When the flag dropped, Leduc tried a move on Kincaid,
but couldn’t make it stick. Jeff continued to hit his marks, and held on to take his first win of the year with Leduc taking 2nd and Chad Hord taking 3rd. Jeff also had the fastest lap in the race earning him the Oakley Bomb Run Award. With his victory Jeff moved into 1st place in the Pro-Lite points battle.
With Kincaid sitting 1st in points, a 6-place inversion placed him in the 6th starting position for Round 4 action. Once again the 16 truck field lined up 2 by 2 awaiting the start of the 20 lap battle. The race got underway and Jeff again charged hard towards the front of the field. Kincaid settled in 2nd behind pole sitter Chad Hord on lap 5. On lap 6, Kincaid closed in on Hord, but as they entered turn 3, Hord spun sideways enough for Jeff to take over 1st place through
the in-field whoop section. Kincaid continued to lead and brought the field to the mandatory caution flag. The field bunched up under the full course caution lap and Kincaid led them to the green for the second half of the race. Steve Federico jumped on the restart bringing out the yellow flag again. Once the field was sorted back to the previous lap running order, they took the green flag one last time. On lap 16, Hord dove inside Kincaid in corner 3 and made contact with Jeff’s front wheel, causing damage to
his steering system. With the damage, Jeff struggled to keep the lead, and allowed Hord, Kyle Leduc and Casey Currie by him(finishing respectively), before taking the checkered flag in 4th place.
With the 4th place finish, Kincaid remains in 1st place in points, tied with Chad Hord with 75 points. Rounds 3 and 4 will be televised this Sunday June 7th at 5 p.m. eastern on ABC. The Traxxas TORC Series is set to take on the Big House of Off-road, Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, WI, June 20th and 21st for rounds 5 and 6. Kincaid continues to hunt for his 7th Pro-Lite championship and looks to win at his hometown track in Crandon.
