Kincaid takes 6th win and
stretches points lead
After
sweeping rounds 11 and 12 in Crandon, Jeff Kincaid Motorsports
was prepped and ready to keep the winning streak alive,
and stretch their points lead. Next on the agenda, Rounds
13 & 14 of the Traxxas TORC series set to take place
at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, CA, this past weekend
September 25th and 26th. Jeff and the crew arrived in Perris,
CA to a sweltering 100+ degrees on Thursday morning to get
set up and teched in for the weekend. Friday afternoon brought
2 practice sessions on the short, technical PAS track. Jeff
decided to watch the first session to see how other drivers
adjust to the changes from the first Perris race. Kincaid
then went out for the second session to perform a shakedown
of his Traxxas – Potawatomi –BFGoodrich - Toyota
Tacoma. With everything good in the run, the crew checked
the truck over to make sure for a flawless race later that
night.
Under the lights, Kincaid headed to staging to strap in
for round 13. The trucks rolled out onto the track, and
began the pace laps, with Kincaid starting in the 6th position
on the 2-by-2 start. The pace truck pulled of the track,
as Mark Oberg and Casey Currie lead the 15 truck field to
the green. Jeff patiently stayed clear of the race start
carnage as he remained in 5th for the first couple laps.
The next couple laps, Kincaid started charging forward,
making his way to 2nd place behind Marty Hart by the 5th
lap. On lap 7, Kincaid had a tire roll off the bead, and
he quickly pulled into the hot pits. Jeff’s crew jumped
into action, changing the tire promptly, getting him back
into action. The leaders did make it by Kincaid before he
could get back out, putting him a lap down. Kincaid raced
hard to the mandatory halfway caution. With Jeff the first
truck a lap down, he received the newly implemented “Lucky-Dog
Award,” getting him back on the lead lap. Kincaid
now had the whole field ahead of him with 10 laps remaining.
The green flag dropped again, as Jeff charged hard towards
the front, passing two trucks on the first lap. The veteran
continued his march towards the front, putting himself in
the top 5 with 5 flaps to go. Kincaid kept battling with
the leaders, passing them one at a time. Coming to the white
flag, Kincaid put himself into 2nd place after some of the
leaders piled up in a corner. Jeff kept charging as Chris
Brandt was in clear site ahead of him. Brandt steadily finished
the lap, and took home the victory, with Kincaid finishing
a short 5 truck lengths behind him. Along with his 2nd place
finish, Kincaid took home his 9th Oakley Bomb Run Award,
and also stretched his lead to 15 points over Chad Hord.
The next day the crew went to work, checking all things
over to ensure another podium finish. With the truck in
top working condition, Jeff got strapped in for round 14.
Kincaid again staged in the 6th position to start the race,
as the field rolled onto the track to take the pace laps.
Casey Currie failed to make it on the track due to mechanical
failures, moving Jeff to 5th. Mark Oberg again led the field
to green, as the Traxxas Pace Truck pulled off. Jeff took
no time getting to the top three, while the 14 truck field
barreled through the 1st turn. Marty Hart led the field
around the first lap, with Kincaid passing Oberg for 2nd
place. Hart and Kincaid continued to battle for the lead
for the first couple laps, until Kincaid made the pass stick
for the lead on lap 3. On the same lap Jeff’s truck
began to bobble going through the infield rhythm section,
allowing Hart and Chad Hord to get by Kincaid. Once Kincaid
got through the rhythm section, the motor cleared out, allowing
Jeff to get back to full speed. With the truck back under
full power, Kincaid started to gain on the leaders again.
By lap 5, Jeff made it back past Hord, and set his sights
on the leader Hart. Kincaid continued to battle with Hart
for lead, up until the mandatory half way caution. The field
bunched back up behind Hart and Kincaid as they took the
green for the second half of the race. Kincaid wasted no
time, as he pulled alongside Hart going down the back stretch
and made the pass stick heading into the infield. Jeff kept
pressing forward stretching his lead out to over 6 truck
lengths, and continued on to take his 6th victory of the
season. With the victory, Jeff claimed his 10th Oakley Bomb
Run award of the season. Hord finished 7th with shifter
problems, allowing Kincaid to stretch his points lead to
27 with only 2 rounds left. Jeff commented about the truck
bobble, “We were lucky it cleared out right away.
There must have been something that blocked a jet, and it
was able to rattle free, so I could go get the win!”
Round 12 action from Perris will air
this Sunday, October 4th, on ESPN2 at 11:00 P.M. Eastern
time. Make sure to catch all the action from Jeff’s
win, and all the other TORC classes. The final rounds of
racing of the Traxxas TORC series is set to take over Las
Vegas Motor Speedway, October 23th and 24th, for rounds
15 and 16. Jeff looks to clinch his 7th Championship early
in the weekend at Vegas, as it will be his last 2 rounds
of racing in a Pro-Lite. Come out, and cheer Jeff on as
he captures his final Pro-Lite Championship! Check our website,
